On 1 May 1883 Dr. R. Hoovner moved 15,650 lbs. of "H H Goods" from Gettysburgh, PA, to Emory Grove, PA, and thence by tender to the Western Maryland Rail Road Co. for delivery at Shippensburg on 3 May 1883. Shippensburg is about 25 air miles, North, North West from Gettysburg. 'HH Goods" means house hold cargo, personal effects.

But Dr. Hoovner was not done.............

A little over three weeks later good Dr. R. Hoovner is seen to move 11,900 lbs. of "H H Goods" from Emory Grove, via Gettysburg on the Hanover & Gettysburg Rail Road Co. for delivery at Hanover Junction. Hanover, PA is about 25 miles due East of Gettysburg.

In 1883 as now, the notation "H H Goods", or our modern "HHG", is a transportation abbreviation that stands for "household goods", personal possessions.

Thus the mystery of Dr. Hoovner's travels in May 1883. Did Dr. Hoover move to Shippensburg on the 1st and then back through Gettysburg and to Hanover on the 29th? Did he not like Shippensburg? Was he helping relatives move to these towns? Might he have been in the HHG moving business? Can you help solve the mystery?
