Below is a copy of the official presentation made to the European Parliament by the International Group of P&I Clubs on Feb. 6 2007.

A P&I Club is a "Protection & Indemnity" group of insurance underwriters which provides risk management and insurance servces to members (the assured).

The 13 underwriting member clubs of the International Group of P&I Clubs ("Group") between them provide liability insurance coverage (protection & indemnity) for approximately 90% of the world's ocean-going tonnage (vessels).

Each Group club is an independent, non-profit making mutual insurance association, providing coverage for its shipowner and charterer members against third party liabilities relating to the use and operation of ships. Each club is controlled by its members through a board of directors or committee elected from the membership.

P&I Clubs cover a wide range of liabilities including personal injury to crew, passengers and others on board, cargo loss & damage, oil pollution, wreck removal and dock damage. Clubs also provide a wide range of services to their members on claims, legal issues and loss prevention, and often play a leading role in the management of casualties.

The following presentation not only provides valuable information for the M/V MSC Napoli loss -- but also insight as to how marine losss is managed.
